Your Transgender Caucus Team

2nd Vice Chair

Commissioner Camille Taylor is a history-making leader, advocate, and champion for rural North Carolina. First elected in 2023 and re-elected in 2025, she proudly serves her second term on the board for the Town of Powellsville, where she has built a reputation for transparency, fiscal accountability, and standing firm for the will of the people.

As the first openly transgender elected official in North Carolina, Commissioner Taylor’s election marked more than a personal milestone — it signaled a new chapter of representation and courage in public service. Her leadership demonstrates that small towns can lead the way in inclusion, fairness, and forward-thinking governance.

Beyond municipal office, Commissioner Taylor was elected Chair of the Bertie County Democratic Party in 2025, where she has focused on energizing grassroots organizing, strengthening voter engagement, and building a durable Democratic presence in rural communities. Under her leadership, the party is working to expand opportunity, protect voting rights, and ensure that Bertie County families are heard at every level of government.

She also serves as Second Vice Chair of the North Carolina Democratic Party Transgender Caucus, advocating statewide for equality, dignity, and policies that protect LGBTQ+ North Carolinians.

With resilience, authenticity, and an unwavering commitment to justice, Commissioner Camille Taylor continues to build a future where every North Carolinian has a seat at the table.
